Who are we ?
We are a multidisciplinary performance arts collective based in the greater Philadelphia & Mid-Atlantic regions. We create immersive experiences for a wide range of events, with a specialty in ceremonial, storytelling, and ritual arts. Our work is a blend of technical skill and fluid improvisational movement. Whether through fire, LED, aerial, or dance, we craft performances that are visually captivating and energetically resonant, leaving a lasting impact on audiences.
Our Origin Story
We began as a group of friends united by a shared love for ecstatic dance and flow arts. We would hang out at local parks and practice our acts, even in the dead of winter. Inspired by the level of talent and devotion within the community, co-founders Ariel and Aruna envisioned something greater. In 2024, we began to bring that vision to life with our first official live storytelling performance at a community event.
Since then, we’ve expanded beyond grassroots spaces and stepped into the broader entertainment world, sharing our artistry on a larger scale while staying rooted in intention and a deeply spiritual approach to performance.
Our Apporach
Our approach to fire arts and performance is multidimensional.
It begins with our relationship to the element of fire. Rooted in reverence, respect, and an understanding of fire as both a teacher and an alchemical force. Fire transforms and purifies. For the performer, it becomes a pathway to reclaim their inner fire, confidence, and unique power. For the space, it does more than captivate or serve as “awe” factor. It shifts the energy; enhancing and uplifting the environment.
Within co-founder Ariel's roots in Northern European wisdom traditions, performance and story telling is viewed as a sacred art. It is understood as an initiatory gateway into deeper embodiment and transformation, and a devotional offering to humanity, the land, and the ancestors. Within this lens, performance artists are seen as modern-day wisdom keepers. Bridging worlds and guiding audiences through experiences that resonate beyond the physical.
As creative director and co-founder, Ariel weaves this philosophy into the fabric of the collective’s work. Shaping performances that are not only visually compelling, but intentional, immersive, and energetically attuned.
Why " Celestial Dragons" ?
The name Celestial Dragons was coined by co-founder Aruna, inspired by our favorite prop, the Dragon Staff.
“Celestial” reflects our connection to something beyond the ordinary. An expansive, otherworldly quality we bring into our performances. “Dragons” represents the graceful power and fiery presence we strive to embody.
The name captures the spirit of our work: powerful, transformative, and a little bit mystical & otherworldly.
